What's with the "Find the Magic in the Misery"?-
Many non runners find the act of running to be a miserable experience. However, becoming a runner can be one of the most magical, rewarding and life changing experiences. Our motto is intended to speak to the non-running community. We are on a mission to help you Find the Magic in the Misery.
From this page you will find some great tips, advice and stories of inspiration from all types of runners. One of my goals with this page is to annihilate the belief that you have to fit a certain mold or "look" to become a runner. Granted, if you are looking to become an olympic hopeful or compete at an elite level you probably end up looking more athletic than most of us average runners but that is not going to be the case for most of us. If you doubt what I'm saying, I would invite you to find a local 5k and just go watch. Go and take a look at the people lining up at the starting line of the event, watch them as the cross the finish line. From the fastest to the slowest you will see one common link, they are all runners. They are committed, not to perfection but progress. They have made the decision to seek improvement but physically as well as mentally through running. They will come in all shapes, sizes, colors, ages and ability levels but they are ALL athletes.
While I understand running is not for everyone (I personally dislike the "no excuses" signs) I do believe that your biggest barrier in becoming a runner is not with your body but with your mind. As most runners would agree, that damn voice in your head that keeps trying to convince you that you should stop can be pretty powerful. I hope that you find all of the inspiration, motivation and information you need to help you become a happy and successful runner. But even more important, I hope that you to Find the Magic in the Misery™ And, ultimately if you decide running is not for you at least be active. Swim, bike, hike, walk...just stay away from that damn couch!
Disclaimer: As with any form of physical or strenuous activity it is important that you are healthy enough to have a safe experience. It is recommended that you have regular physicals and that you consult with your physician about your desire to become a runner. This will keep you safe and give you some professional medical guidance. A sports doctor is always a good option as well. The thoughts and opinions listed within these links are those of fellow runners. They are not intended to replace the advice or opinions of certified coaches or medical professionals. We are all unique when it comes to running so remember- what works for one, doesn't automatically work for all.
